We are biologically wired for connection and in times of crisis, trauma, anxiety, depression, the unknown, grief and loss; it’s important to ensure that we maintain healthy connection with those who are closest to us in our lives.
Often times, people end up either getting caught up in the busyness of life or unhealthily self-isolating which both lead to loss of meaningful connection. Researchers have discovered positive meaningful connections are one of the primary keys to maintaining healthy and meaningful lives. It’s so amazing to me that with all of our technology, including social media, how very lonely society appears to be indicating they feel. Now, with the ongoing concerns of the coronavirus, we have been asked worldwide to be socially distant from each other. Even though the practice of being socially distant has been requested within Calgary and areas such as Airdrie and Cochrane, it is more important than ever to find creative ways to socially connect with one another in order to not lose ourselves to unhealthy isolation leading to emotional and mental health challenges.
If you are reading this post and realizing you may have been isolated or isolating for far too long, I would encourage you to consider online or face to face counselling with a qualified therapist that can help support in re-connecting with yourself and to others.
