In couples counseling and depression therapy with couples, one of the biggest challenges that can sometimes pop up, in an otherwise successful marriage, is the challenges of finances in a relationship.
Either way, whether you have separate accounts, joint accounts, or a combo of both, if one partner is a saver and the other one is a spender there can be some sparks that fly over how the spending or saving of finances are dealt with. When a couple is not happy with how the use of finances are being spent or mizered (oops, I mean saved), conflict and anger can lead to depression in the relationship. When depression enters a relationship it might be time to consider depression therapy combined with couples counselling Calgary.
When managing your finances with your partner it is important for both to have input in the decision-making process, however, quite often (not always) one partner tends to be better at the banking and bookkeeping side of things so this is a good area to begin discussing these often-challenging roles and responsibilities.
Be aware of your partner’s spending habits and if overspending is occurring, consider developing a spending/allowance account for you or your partner who likes to buy stuff. This way, once the monies are gone either you will have to save up or wait for next month’s approved monies to be spent.
If you or your partner are a saver, make sure you are both in agreement as to how much is to be saved and what is being saved for. Letting your partner know what is being saved can support the spender of the family to withhold from dipping into the savings.
Saving or spending can be stressful for either partner’s money habits so it’s important if anger and/or depression is entering the relationship to seek a qualified financial planner and at the same time consider investing in your relationship and seek out a qualified counselling therapist, clinical counsellor, or psychotherapist and begin to walk in New Life.
