TAKING RISKS

What do you think of when you see the word RISK?

Maybe it’s accomplishing a huge dream of yours that requires taking a giant leap of faith. However, every time you look down it’s just way to scary and you back off waiting for another opportunity to come along.

Maybe, it’s the other way around and you actually took a leap of faith, risked it all, and then lost it all, and now you’re just trying to figure out how to muster the courage to start all over again.

Maybe RISK means learning to be emotionally vulnerable. However, every time you attempt in being vulnerable you end up either hurting those around you or getting hurt yourself feeling shame and rejection.

One thing that helps in increasing our ability to succeed in taking risk is found in the area of Preparation. Never discount the time preparation allows us to develop our courage, skills and confidence. Preparation often allows us to recognize windows of opportunity that lead us in making make wise choices in our risk; rather than foolishly jumping into a situation that we might have been able to accomplish if we had allowed ourselves to be more prepared. I’m always amazed at couples who have chosen the preparation route of pre-marital counselling before they got married. Statistically, Marriage could be considered a very high risk; especially with the current divorce rates. However, statistics also have demonstrated those who have taken pre-marital counselling have prepared themselves to beat the odds of divorce and actually stay married.

If preparation is key to increasing your ability to be successful at taking bigger risks; then consider seeking out the support of a qualified therapist who can support and prepare you emotionally and mentally in order to RISK walking in NEW LIFE.
