What is ART

Accelerated Resolution Therapy, often referred to as ART, is a form of psychotherapy with roots in existing evidence-based therapies but shown to achieve benefits much more rapidly (usually within 1-5 sessions). Clients suffering from trauma and other mental health problems such as Anxiety, Depression, Phobias, Panic Attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Addictions/ Substance Abuse , Performance Anxiety, Family Issues, Victimization/Poor Self Image, Victimization/Sexual Abuse, Relationship Issues/Infidelity, Codependency, Grief, Job Related Stress, Pain Management, Memory Enhancement and many other mental and physical conditions can experience remarkable benefits starting in the first session.

The client is always in control of the entire ART session, with the therapist guiding the process. Although some traumatic experiences such as rape, combat experiences, or loss of a loved one can be very painful to think about or visualize, the therapy rapidly moves clients beyond the place where they are stuck in these experiences toward growth and positive changes. The process is very straightforward, using relaxing eye movements and a technique called Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement to change the way in which the negative images are stored in the brain. The treatment is grounded in well-established psychotherapy techniques, and the end result is that traumas and difficult life experiences will no longer trigger strong emotions or physical reactions. Importantly, clients do not even have to talk about their traumas or difficult life experiences with the therapist to achieve recovery

How ART Works

ART incorporates a combination of techniques used in many other traditional psychotherapies. ART works directly to reprogram the way in which distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions. ART accomplishes this through the use of rapid eye movements similar to eye movements that occur during dreaming. Although techniques similar to these are used in other types of therapies. ART’s very specific and directive approach can achieve rapid recovery from symptoms and reactions that may have been present for many years. ART combines long respected, sound treatment practices with safe and effective methods validated by current scientific research studies conducted by the University of South Florida.

What is Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement (VMR/VIR)

ARTs powerful technique of Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement (VMR/VIR) is used when clients are very clear about wanting to get rid of traumatic images and they come to a session prepared to process out the old images and restore mental health by replacing it with a more positive image.

Although they know that the new image is not the actual memory, it feels like a new start for them. The memory story remains while the images from the trauma are erased or replaced. Once this happens, the Trigger Origin (T.O.) is removed and the client’s affect changes – often in an instant.

Clients have spoken of their old images becoming “like a distant dream.” Even if the old scene does not fade completely, the new scene will firmly attach itself to it so that the clients move on easily to see the new scene they have chosen.

Why is the Pricing Different than a Regular Therapy Session

One ART session will take approximately an hour and a half to complete, however, sometimes a session may only take 1 hour. If a session ends up only being one hour you will only be charged for an individual session hourly fee. The hour and a half fee is a reduced fee than what normally would be charged for this length of time to support  your personal budget.

Counselling Calgary, Couples Counselling Calgary, Family Counselling Calgary

Absolutely. New Life Counselling is currently open Tuesday/Wednesday’s/Thursday’s from 9am to 9pm and also on Sunday afternoon’s.

In the first sessions we complete the paperwork, discuss confidentiality, and begin to hear your story. The focus of the second session is to continue to hear your story and discover potential areas of strength and improvement.

The third and fourth sessions are typically a time to write down what the focus of counseling will be. This is often called a “Treatment Plan.” The treatment plan will outline what things you’d like to change, for example:

To yell less when we’re upset with one another and feel like we’re married within 2 months.

To discuss my feelings with my partner more openly by Christmas.

The Treatment Plan outlines your specific goals, how we will measure them, and what will happen to help you reach them. Also, it will outline who is in charge of what aspects of it. For example, a child may need to practice new skills, a parent may learn new parenting techniques, and your therapist may provide you with a list of resources.

The following sessions will focus upon meeting your Treatment Goals. We will discuss the progress and decide if we need to add goals, change them, or if you want to be done with counseling. Our goal is to help you decide when you’re done with counseling, so you can get on with your life.

Some individuals who deal with high amounts of social anxiety prefer online counselling as they may not be ready to deal with the reality of seeing someone face to face. Other circumstances, such as Covid-19 or living remotely, prevent a client from coming in the office to get the support required to walk in a New Life.

The good news, regarding online counselling, is that studies have demonstrated that certain styles of therapy have actually demonstrated to increase positive outcomes in various areas such as anxiety and depression.

If you are interested in pursuing quality Online Counselling, I would suggest calling New Life Counselling to set up a free 15 minute meet and greet online to see, hear and feel for yourself if online counselling is the right fit for you or if your partner and you are needing couples counselling.
